The monsoon starts in June month in India. Rain and strong wind become common in monsoon. Due to rain, ground becomes wet and muddy.Walking in these kinds of situations is very difficult. Shoes which have slippery improper soles can cause slippage and can result in injury.
Is it bad to wear wet shoes?
Wearing wet shoes is bad for both your feet and your shoes.Wearing wet shoes will cause skin damage. It can result in very painful blisters. Shoes fiber and sole can get damaged after getting wet. Shoe upper and sole stitching and bond can get weaker after being wet for a long time.
There are some other tips to take care of your shoes this rainy season: -
1. Let your shoes dry properly and naturally.
Don’t wear shoes continuously for a long time period. Shoes absorb moisture from feet’s sweat and external sources like mud and rain. Due to moisture in the shoe, the chances of infections increase and the shoe starts to smell bad.
So shoes should be dried properly after every 7-10 days.Shoes should be put in an airy spot to dry naturally. Don't leave shoes in direct sun rays for a longer time as it will damage the shoe. Talcum powder can also be used here to absorb excess moisture.
2. Remove mud as soon as possible
Mud is very common in the rainy season. If left unattended then dried mud becomes more difficult to remove and will be harmful to shoe fabric. First, use a soft brush to remove excess mud. Then use wet clothes to remove mud softly.
A toothbrush can also be used on the sole as mud is difficult to remove from shoe threads.
3. Storing shoes properly when not in use
Many people just keep their shoes asides when not in use. In the rainy season, there is moisture in the air which can be get collected in shoes that can lead to fungus and germ formation. This is not an ideal practice.
While storing shoes for some time always make sure that they are stored in a dry place. Newspaper or any other paper should be stuffed inside the shoe to soak moisture. This will also help in avoiding any insects to enter in shoes. Storing shoes in wooden cupboards or the original shoe boxes is recommended here.
4. Shoe swapping
Shoes should be changed regularly. Changing shoes with another shoe pair will reduce shoe wear and tear. It will also help in moisture evaporation from the shoe and thus will prolong shoe life.
